A game consistent to the style of its predecessor
I loved the animation and the style of game. It reminds me much of James the Christmas Zebra in that it is only one level and the use of random elements. I love how the music is used to signify the end of the level.
My only concern is in its current state it will make users feel robbed of a good challenge since obviously the skill level is dependent on the number of rocks and stars. I am almost certain the number of stars is constant but not where the will appear. Mario games never relied on random because it took away from skill and leaves everything to random. Like our top scorer of 8200 it is most likely the elements were lined up in an optimal solution produced by random. This defeats of the ability for a person to have skill at your game. This could be a desired effect but defeats the purpose of replay ability to challenge ones skills. Not that there is no skill. It takes practice to figure out that pressing up should only be used minimally to allow James to float away from rocks and danger. Yet, I feel the rocks because they are so random create moments where acquiring a score becomes close to impossible.
Sometimes it was possible to only make a score of 4000 even if one could evade all the obstacles which leaves a sour taste in a gamers mouth and other times possible to reach pretty close to 7000. Also 1 level can stagnate a game and fail to allow for long play ability. Perhaps it would be fun to add multiple levels? Games like James need more than one quick run.
Seriously, I love your games but I want them to last longer and seem like I am not playing against a random computer that pretty much determines if I can get a high score or not. Multiple levels or preset rewards and punishment could make this game or series of games reach a new level of fun. Or perhaps keep the rocks from overloading the screen and robbing players of decent scores.
